Little C: The Mourning After
Readers, this is maybe the ninth time I have tried to write this post. A few weeks ago I naively thought that once this election was over that we could start to move on. I woke up to the news that this country is more divided and fractured than ever. Those who supported Trump seem alive with righteous wrath. Those who did not are dealing with a growing sense of dread. There was even a large discussion on social media about California separating from the US the way Texas threatens to every time someone they don't like wins. The future is uncertain, but we as a country either have to start to put ourselves back together or we are going to fracture.
I'm going to leave a video here for the only person that's made sense today. Stephen Colbert offered an explanation for how our politics became so toxic. It's insightful. It's beautiful. It's not enough, but it helps.
So for those who got what they wanted last night, in order to accomplish anything you have on your agenda, you are going to need the people you don't agree with to help you. Now is the time to put aside your ego and start working. To those who are suffering in quiet devastation today, all is not lost. Abraham Lincoln once said "The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country" Now is the time to put aside your fear and start working.
Good luck out there
