Little C: A Time to Mourn

Readers, I don't know where to start. Christy and I lost a friend today, the latest in a seemingly endless line of deaths and heartbreaks this year. I feel wounded, and damaged and like I could crawl into bed and hide under the covers for a month and it would still hurt. We are at best limping across the New Year.

At times like this there are so few words that I feel can do anything to fix our minds and hearts. 2017 offers no magic switch that once January 1st comes will flip and change us into upbeat people. We are destined to spend the next few weeks and months picking up the pieces and trying to remember how to feel good. And at least for today, happiness is off the menu.

This video is Antony and the Johnsons performing River of Sorrow live in London. Anohni (the singer) has one of the most expressive voices I've ever heard and especially in these moments of bewildering loss this is the music that I reach for. 

I swear we will go back to talking to you guys about TV and comic books. I swear we will not continue being miserable bitches for the rest of our lives. There will come a time when it feels okay to talk about the latest Marvel movie or show. To tell jokes that we pare with inappropriate gifs. But today is our time to mourn. 

Our top 10 of 2016 will be coming out next week, to help us remind you guys and ourselves that there were things that we loved about this year. I will see you then.
