The Things we Lost to Upfront Season

Readers, I'm so sorry that we started a new format on the blog and then could not stick to it. We have a lot of projects going on and we are not. good. at. juggling. Ask anyone.

This week has been a goddamn Victorian tragedy for our TV shows. Yesterday Fox cancelled our deeply beloved Brooklyn Nine-Nine. There's some hope that it will get picked up somewhere else but that still stings. Today we started the day with them cancelling The Exorcist and Lucifer. Not gonna lie, those hurt in a real way and both of us may have researched what it would look like to build an impenetrable wall around Fox TV Studios (a lot of money and a little too much effort, for the record). In our defense, those shows were two of our favorites and they hadn't had enough time to tell their full story yet. Yes we should have known better before we fell in love with Fox shows, but we lapsed and now our hearts are broken.

And then. And then. The CW passed on Wayward Sisters. We are going to decline to focus on the shows that they did pick up. Even if we feel like the shows they picked up are things that no one asked for and we don't understand why they can't just give us THIS ONE THING THAT WE NEED!!!

Sorry. Actually no, I'm not sorry. My feelings are hurt and I'm feeling salty.

Listen, this week sucks about three out of every four years. We love genre TV shows and unfortunately those tend to be short lived. If we were emotionally mature adults, we would be used to that crushing feeling of disappointment that this time of year brings. But because we are nerds we can't help but throw ourselves fully into a world and a story which means when those stories get cut short, we feel the loss.

We aren't alone on our feelings of quiet (sort of) devastation. There have been twenty shows cancelled in the last two days. So be kind to the TV nerd in your life this week. Because no matter what kind of show they're in to they lost something.

Good luck in finales this week, if you need us we will be stealing trucks of cement... for a project...
