Movie Crush Monday: Little C and Frost/Nixon
Hello readers,
I am coming in right at the wire with this one because I had the day off and I pulled a double feature at Christy's theater instead of cleaning my house or writing my blog post. Oops. But Christy gave me a softball with The Assassination of Jesse James because it had absolutely everyone in it. Including Sam Rockwell who I am following to Frost/Nixon.

In a year filled with political debate, (some of it coherent and some of it actual dick measuring competitions...) I've been wanting to rewatch this movie. It's the story of the interviews between David Frost and the former President Nixon. We remember the interviews now because it was one of the first times that Nixon acknowledged that he did anything wrong with the Watergate scandal. But the actual story behind the interviews were not that simple. Nixon was known as Tricky Dick for a reason and Frost and his team struggled to get anywhere in the first three of their four part interview series.
Because politicians have always been this infuriating
The cast in this movie is outstanding. Frank Langella and Michael Sheen have a perfect push pull as the disgraced former leader of the free world and the charming TV host who's in over his head. But the rest of the cast is Oliver Platt, Kevin Bacon, Sam Rockwell, and Matthew McFayden and they are just as amazing as they always are. And under the direction of Ron Howard there was no way for this to be anything short of amazing.
I want to give special attention to the script for this movie. Richard Nixon was a national villain, so for Peter Morgan to turn that Character into someone who is aware of his flaws but also believes that he was entitled to his actions. All of the characters are fully fleshed out with these interesting flaws and quirks. And the dialogue is intelligent without being pretentious which sounds simple but I can tell you from experience that it's really not.
Good luck surviving the political primary season. Oh and happy watching.
Little C
