Movie Crush Monday: CT & The Avengers

Fellow Nerds, it's been a looooong couple of years. There have been moments of respite, but we all know that it's been a long wait and we are tired. But friends, that wait is coming to an end in a short few days...

Because once again, it's Avenger time. Caitlin and I (and everyone else with a pulse) are just stupid, deliriously excited for Age of Ultron to come out. We need Joss Whedon in our lives like oxygen, and we saw the first Avengers movie, well... let's just say an embarrassing number of times.

So in honor of the excitement we're feeling, my Movie Crush Monday post this week is The Avengers! Let's take a stroll together down memory lane before we jump into the newest Marvel adventure this weekend.

Confession time... Cait and I went to see The Avengers without ever having seen Thor. I know, I know, Thor was great. I'll be completely honest, it was the golden-Pringle eye patch that did it. We straight up didn't think we could take the whole movie seriously, so we skipped it. (Yes, we immediately tracked it down after we saw The Avengers, and yes, it was amazing. Our bad.) But that meant that we walked into The Avengers without a context for Thor or Loki or any of the ways Coulson had been integral to building this team.

And you know what? It didn't matter. Not even a little bit.

That's the really astounding thing about The Avengers. You don't really need the context. Of course it helps, and of course the whole movie means a little bit more when you have those characters and their backstories to consider. But we felt just as much part of the action, just as much part of the story without knowing any of it.
I'll be honest- this gif makes me suuuuper dizzy...

Joss Whedon crafted a story that looped in a ridiculous number of characters into a mission that serviced all of them. He developed their relationships in a way that tied all of their stories together and made this crazy team of misfits into a team. He also managed to build in hints that each of these characters have lives beyond the movie. The Avengers brought together not just the characters, but the whole of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And beyond that, it was a ridiculously fun action flick. I'm pretty sure that we have to abandon our dreams of rewatching all of the Marvel movies and the first season of SHIELD, but we may need a quick rewatch of The Avengers before the upcoming National Holiday on Thursday...

Happy Avengers Day!
