Movie Crush Monday: CT & Penelope
It's Movie Crush Monday time again friends! Gosh, doesn't it seem like it was just Monday? Next think you know we'll be having one of those every week. (Little beginning of the week humor for ya there.)
Well, since pretty much everyone we love was in Cait's pick last week, The Addams' Family, I had my choice of movies this week. But when it came right down to it, it wasn't really a choice at all. Because if you follow the amazing Christina Ricci down the line of her career, you'll find yourself at the charming and wonderful Penelope.
I remember seeing this movie in the theaters and I was won over absolutely immediately. Penelope is very much a modern-day fairy tale, sort of a Beauty And The Beast turned on its head. The central character, Penelope, finds herself the victim of a family curse that leaves her with a pig's nose. She has to find true love with someone "of her own kind" (like another blue blood) in order to break the curse. Enter Max, played by the world's most charming man ever, James McAvoy, who has alterior motives for helping her break the curse.
There are dozens of things I love about Penelope, but one of the top is the way it absolutely nails the modern fairy tale tone. This movie is almost equal parts hysterical and touching, with color and magic in every frame.
The other thing that absolutely has to be mentioned is the cast. This movie is practically a who's who of Actors CT and Caitlin Love. Beyond Christina Ricci and James McAvoy, you have Peter Dinklage, Catherine O'Hara, Nick Frost, Burn Gorman, Reese Witherspoon.... Seriously it's the entire cast. We love them all. There's even a small appearance by Russell Brand. And they're all giving a thousand percent.
But okay guys, stick with me here, because my absolute favorite part of the whole thing is the ending. And without issuing the worst spoiler ever and becoming that person, I can't really tell you about it. Except to say that it's awesome and I love it. And you should go see it. Like now.
Happy Watching!
