CT: Thoughts From The Rewatch

Alright readers, here's the thing. It's been a real long, sorta weird couple of weeks- we went to Missouri to the film set (which was apparently enough of a trippy experience that we still can't get our acts together to write about it), then our older sister came to visit and we ate approximately all the tacos in Southern California. We've gotten a TON of new writing done, but we've also done a lot of hiding under the bed and not sleeping. It's been weird, for reals.

The thing that's making the most sense in the world right now is that we are smack dab in the middle of a massive rewatch of Supernatural. Right now we're midway through season 9 and oh boy do I just love this show. So, since pretty much everything else in the entire world sends me into a fit of rage, I thought I'd share some of the thoughts I've had during this rewatch.

1) First of all, this show is ASTOUNDINGLY consistent. I mean, the rules for the world are ever-shifting (expected for any show that's gone on this long), but these characters... They just are who they are and the writers manage to make them grow and change without letting go of the things that make the Winchester boys who they are.

2) John Winchester gets AAAAALLLLL the awards for WORST PARENT EVER. Full stop. The fangirls and fanboys have written endlessly about this, so I won't dwell here long but holy smokes was that man the worst thing that happened to these characters. Abusive seems like the nice way to put it.

3) There's something gleeful about the way this show ignores all physics and biology of how blood looks, acts, and moves once it's been forcibly removed from a human. They do not care. It's glorious.

4) While the overarching mythology has gotten ridiculously complicated, I love the way Supernatural approaches the mythology of monsters, places, etc. They have a huge amount of fun with all the folklore they come up against.

5) No, seriously, John Winchester was the freaking worst.

6) Jensen Ackles might just be the world's cutest human being. I mean, just look at him.

7) There's also a fascinating rhythm to this show's seasons. They've been on the air for so long that you can tell when things start to slow down and the whole world needs a bit of a revamp. It speaks to the quality of showrunning that Supernatural has had, because overall the show feels very fresh. It doesn't hurt that these guys look like they're having the most fun ever.

8) Nothing is sadder than these two crying. And it doesn't get any less sad the more times they do it.
I'm dying. Dead.

9) Mark Sheppard can have any role he wants in anything Caitlin and I write from here until the end of times. Amen.

10) CHAAAARRRRLIE! We are all Charlie. Best. Character. Ever.

So that's that, friends. We are going to hunker down here until things reach some semblance of normal again. Not that we've chosen a life where everything will always be in flux or anything... great...

Happy Watching!
