Little C: Why Is The Inhumans Such A Disaster?
Readers, I know I'm late on my post. You will hear some exciting news tomorrow about us (mostly because we will tell you said news) but let's just say it derailed our ability to talk about anything else and since we will NOT BE TOM HOLLAND ABOUT OUR BIG NEWS I thought it safer to just not write a post till I could calm the hell down. I woke up this morning centered and ready to be a normal blogger again. And then I checked the nerdy news because that's usually lighter than the real news and now I'm enraged.
Let's go back to the beginning for a minute. Once upon a time Marvel announced that in its terribly ambitious slate of movies it was going to do a film version of The Inhumans. The comic was about a family of people with weird superpowers who lived in space and were constantly fighting. Think Dynasty meets The Jetsons meets The X-men. I was skeptical about this working but damnit if they can make me route for a CGI raccoon than anything goes I guess. A year later it was dropped from the movie slate and moved to TV. This seemed like it was going to tie in nicely to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. so I remained optimistic where I had no right to.
And here is where the story takes a sharp turn for the obnoxious. They rushed production on the TV show, announced that it would be filmed as a tie in to IMAX cameras, and decided that it would be unconnected to the rest of their TV shows all at once. Oh and the creator is also the asshole responsible for Iron Fist. For those of you who are unfamiliar with our feelings on Iron Fist, it was godawful. #IronFistSux #DannyRandIsTheWorst
And then the first picture for the show dropped. The costumes were awful. Medusa, the coolest of the Inhumans was in a disastrous red wig. The nerd-dom took one look at the picture and collectively screamed "NO!" And they were just getting started. Next the first trailer dropped. There was bad CGI and bad sets and worse acting. It was like a parody of a Marvel show but being played with desperate seriousness. The only redeeming quality was the teleporting dog, and yes I know how that sounds.
That was two months ago and since then they have held a TCA press conference where the cast and creator were defensive and short tempered, they've released another trailer that fixed some worries that from the first trailer but created new problems, and held a widely publicized but sparsely attended premier at IMAX theaters around the country. And as if they just don't know how to stop themselves, now they've released this poster... See if you can spot the dramatic drop in confidence.
It now says "COMPLETE SERIES" on it. Does this mean that Marvel/ABC have seen the writing on the wall and they've all but announced the cancellation? Sadly no it's probably just another in a long list of errors and mishandlings. But FFS guys, pull your act together.
See you tomorrow when we can finally tell you that----
Little C is temporarily unavailable to finish this post because she was about to pull a Tom Holland. She has been tasered and is sleeping off her moment away from her computer...
