Movie Crush Monday: CT & A Midsummer Night's Dream

Guys, we're back. It's been an intense couple of weeks where we basically fell apart as bloggers because everything, everything in life was completely insane. Including us attending the premiere for a movie we wrote (say whaaaaaaaa), which is totally a real thing that happened in the actual physical world and not in our heads. Full post on that coming up, we promise.

In the meantime it's back to our regularly scheduled programming, readers, which means it's time for a Movie Crush Monday. If you think back many, many weeks when we last had a Movie Crush, it was Little C talking about Hunchback of Notre Dame which means it's time for me to talk about...

A Midsummer Night's Dream!

Because we need to do something as painfully normal as possible, we're going to talk about this Shakespeare adaptation of a fantasy play. Right in the dead center of our comfort zone. In fact, this is one of my absolute favorite Shakespeare plays. Shakespeare does big, fantasy worlds so incredibly well, and he uses every inch of his world-building to help tell stories. And this is a story that has been told so many times that it's easy to overlook how great it is, how funny and weird and romantic and truly, truly fantastical.

On days when I wear my flower crown around the house all day (working from home for the win!), Little C likes to call me Titania. I like to think of that as a compliment, because I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of my personal aesthetic came from this movie. Glitter? Check. Flowers all over absolutely everything? Check. Girls ready to beat the stuffing out of anyone that gets in their way? Check. Stanley Tucci as a mischievous sprite meddling in everyone's lives to make them more complicated? Check and check.

Because here's the truth, readers. I love me some magic. A little fairy dust around the edges of a story to make things happen and bring people together and make some chaos. Fairy queens being carted around the forest by their little fairy helpers. The most glittery eye makeup that you've ever seen in your life.

Yes to all of it. Watch this movie, friends. You'll be so glad that you did.

Happy watching!
