Movie Crush Monday: Little C and Sin City
Readers, as CT mentioned just a few short hours ago, we were off in our homeland all weekend. So today we are recovering slowly and getting back into writing. So slowly. This morning it was very much like we were both hungover as we sat in Denny's and gave blank stares to our pancakes. So as I trolled through the actors from Live Free or Die Hard (inspired choice CT. Wish I could have thought of it) I couldn't really be bothered to look much farther than Bruce Willis. So I will be following him to Sin City.
Special kudos to our favorite hobbit Elijah Woods. He plays a completely mute character who only has maybe a grand total of 10 minutes on screen. But he plays the character to his absolute creepiest and completely steals the scenes he's in. This character has played a kay role in some of my biggest nightmares. So well played Mr. Frodo. Well played.
As devoted readers know, I love a good comic book. And this movie is based on one of the best and co-directed by that comic's creator Frank Miller. It's also directed by our good buddy Robert Rodriguez who put his talent for action sequences together with Frank Miller's ability to compose a beautiful shot and you get this-
The whole movie is shot black and white with very specific colors added in very specific spots. It's a series of loosely connected stories that all take place in the same city. Mostly they're stories of revenge or redemption told in all the cool noir style of the novels. The characters are complicated and messed up and their motives and backstories are complex. Every time I watch it my favorite story shifts.
Happy Watching,
Little C
