Movie Crush Monday:Little C and Secondhand Lions

Happy Monday, dear readers. Last week CT talked about Children of Men and it's dystopia. Since the news in general has been a little dystopian this week I thought I'd take us somewhere a little lighter. So I'm following Michael Caine to the lighthearted fantasy of Secondhand Lions.

This movie is such a delightful look at the way children absorb stories. The basic premise is that Walter, played by Hayley Joel Osmond in his adorable squeaky years, goes to live with his two great uncles. Both men are cranky and like to shoot at the door to door salesmen that visit their isolated ranch. They don't really make ideal caretakers but as the summer wears on Garth (Caine) starts telling Walter the story of how he and Hub (Robert Duvall) went on adventures when they were younger.

Walter gets so drawn in to Garth's stories as the two men buy an aging circus lioness in order to hunt it only to give in and alow Walter to adopt her as a pet. The characters are weird and extreme in the way that children often view things. The flashbacks to Garth and Hubs adventures are dashing and heroic (though that is in part to blog favorite Christian Kane and his sexy sexy ways) because the whole story is told how a kid would see it.

Fair warning to my fellow movie criers, I sob like a small child through the last fifteen minutes of this one. Every. Time. Keep the tissues handy. Here's an extra picture of Christian to make up for the tears.

Happy watching,

Little C
