Movie Crush Monday: Little C and Iron Man

Welcome back to the movie crush posts! As you may have noticed, we took last week off to launch our webseries. And hey speaking of shameless self promotion, you can find our first episode HERE!

So when we last left off, Christy told you about Good Night and Good Luck. A little on the nose, as we're on the eve of what might be the end of the world... So let's go to a lighter note. I'd like to follow Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel movie that started it all.

Remember way back in the day when there was only one super hero movie to come out a year and it was a real toss up whether or not it was going to suck? Those were dark days. And the beginning of the new era was Iron Man. Marvel wanted to start up their own movie studio using the characters of theirs that hadn't been licensed. Everyone laughed at them. "B-list heroes!" they cried. Those poor short-sighted idiots.

This movie was everything that we have come to expect. It was cool, it was funny, it had some kick ass action scenes. Robert Downey Jr. took the broodiness and goofiness of the Batman movies and instead proudly stood up and said "I am Iron Man." It was such a relief to have a hero that wasn't burdened with a secret identity that forced them to live their whole life in the shadows.

Having just seen (and felt luke warm about) Dr Strange, I can say that this is the best of the superhero origins from either side of the comics wars to be released in the last decade. It's a nice thing to re-watch after each disappointing entry in the DC murder-verse that there is a super hero story built around a character that actively turns away from making weapons and strives to instead create things that save lives.

Yeah. That too.

Okay, time to wrap up. This is your friendly reminder that tomorrow is election day. Find your polling place, make your voice heard.

Happy watching, and may we not see the world end tomorrow,
Little C
