Top 10 of 2016 (New Year's Mega-Post Round 3!)

Well readers, we are blessedly through to 2017. But before we officially say "good riddance" to last year we must post a list of things we liked about it. So let's do this!

10) Harry Potter Land-Topia at Universal Studios

We got season passes to Universal this year when they announced that they were opening a section of the park dedicated to all of us muggles. We've since been about once a month because that place is indeed our jam. Every time we go, we get super hopped up on sugar and go stalk the Raptor Trainers at the Jurassic Park part of Universal.
9) The Musketeers
Source
Swashbuckling adventure? Check. Pretty guys in lots of leather costumes? Check. Sassy leading ladies who like to shoot people? Check! Our love for this show is no secret to regulars around these parts, so it had to be included in the Top Ten.

8) Slade House/ David Mitchell
Source
CT finds herself in multiple book clubs, and for one of them she read Slade House by David Mitchell. She'd actually tried to read Cloud Atlas (probably his more famous book) a few times but it's a daunting one. Slade House is set in the same world, but is a more gentle entry into Mitchell's difficult narrative structures. It set off an obsession with Mitchell and his books that CT has yet to shake.

7) Midnight Special
Source
Oooooh guys. GUYS. Did you all SEE Midnight Special??! Ok, but did you? Because it was so good. So good that it left us, self-professed movie nerds, completely speechless with all the awesome. Jeff Nichols has such a unique style of storytelling, and it works so well for us. If you like science fiction or movies or Michael Shannon, this movie is a complete tour-de-force.

6) Ladybird Diner

So while we were in Missouri onthesetofthemoviewewrote (they said trying not to sound self serving, but that's the actual reason we were there), we took a little side trip to Lawrence Kansas (home to Supernatural brothers Sam and Dean) to have pie because we are huge nerds. We stumbled across this little diner and THEY HAD WHISKEY FLAVORED PIE! Again, huge nerds.

5) The Magicians
Source
We both read the book series by Lev Grossman and watched the Syfy show, and while they were very different in how they approached the world of a magical university, we loved them both. We're suckers for incredible worldbuilding, and both the show and the books for The Magicians have that in spades. You have to basically completely separate the show from the books but it's so worth it.

4) Ody-C
Source
Oh god guys. I picked this up because Matt Fraction is a genius and I trust him implicitly. And I was so not disappointed. The art, you guys, the art!

3) The Flash
Source
We both got super into this show this year. Grant Gustin might be the most charming human being to ever walk the planet. In a world of SO MANY superhero shows, we just had to make time for this one every time because it's fantastic and Barry Allen makes our hearts so happy.

2) California- Blink 182
Source
You didn't think we could leave this one off the list after Little C did a track by track breakdown on why it's so brilliant, did you? This was the album that defined the year in the best way and now it's nominated for a Grammy! I am really rooting for the award to go to the people that gave us "I wanted to see naked dudes, that's why I built this pool."

1) Arrival
Source
So, there's no way to talk in depth about Arrival without giving away some of the magic that this movie has. Let's just say that it was probably the best movie of the year, and we're pretty sure it should be required viewing for everyone. The best science fiction has something to say about who we are as humans, who we've been and where we're going. And this movie does just that, in a way that left CT a sobbing mess in the auditorium.

Ok, so we've had quite a year, and there's nothing quite as good as summing up all the things you've loved. We're ready to take on 2017 swinging, and we're wishing the best for all of you as we jump into the new year together. If you missed our Runners Up, you can check that out here!

Much Love,
CT & Little C
