Little C: Madam Doctor

Hey readers, as you may have noted from out weekly update, CT and I are just a little excited about the announcement of Jodie Whittaker as the next Doctor on our beloved Doctor Who. We've adored the show's reboot since the beginning, but truth be told we were finding ourselves less and less satisfied by the recent years. The show had felt stale for several seasons, and while the addition of bi-racial and openly lesbian Bill (the current companion played by Pearl Mackie) helped a little we were more charmed by the character than the stories she was telling. And unfortunately that's something we've been noticing for a while. Stephen Moffat started off his tenure of Who with a lot of charm and energy but his patterns and habits, like using female characters as story devices rather than bothering to fully form them, were starting to turn us off completely.

We loved Broadchurch (The BBC version. The American redo was iffy) so we were excited when the showrunner Chris Chibnall was tapped to take over The Who. But as longtime fans who's enthusiasm was starting to wane, we needed a gesture. We needed him to show that he could at least begin to change this show to keep up with the times. And with the casting of the shows first female doctor he's done just that. He's taken a step.

Now I want to be perfectly clear on something, this is not the perfect solution to bringing the show into modern times. Doctor Who is finally played by a woman, but she's an attractive, white, blonde lady in her 30's. It's a small step. We're hoping that he can show that the Doctor's maleness is irrelevant to the fun adventures and moral lessons of the world, and than he will hopefully take another step. The 14th doctor should be a person of color. If the BBC is interested, I have a slide show they are free to browse. May I recommend Delroy Lindo. For everything. Ever. The man is a goddamn treasure and the idea of him inside the Tardis makes my heart go pitter-pat.

GIVE HIM A SONIC SCREWDRIVER AT ONCE!!!

I also feel that I should take a moment and acknowledge the man-babies that are crying from the top of any sad little hill they can find that they will never again sully their eyes with the sight of Doctor Who! To these poor misguided and intellectually stunted children I say: Bye! Don't let the door hit you on the way out of the fandom! The BBC took your misspelled tweeted threats into account and decided that they didn't give a shit about your fragile feelings. May you find another nerd-dom realm to ruin with your bad attitude! I hear the Iron Fist Fandom are looking to bolster their numbers! You should feel right at home in a place where your main character is a boring white guy!

Happy Nerding
Little C
