Movie Crush Monday: CT & The Fast and The Furious

A happy Monday to you, Readers! Since I quit my corporate job, I've actually grown to really enjoy Mondays. Today Little C and I wrote, ran errands, had dinner with friends- a truly delightful day. And it's about to get even better because I finally get to write to you about one of my favorite movies of all time (we're following director Rob Cohen from xXx):

I'm not being sarcastic or ironic here when I say that I absolutely adore The Fast and The Furious and all of its many, many sequels. We own all of them and I'm not joking when I say that we watch them all the time. Don't get me wrong here, there are a million more artsy films that I love. I could watch weird French films all day, or any of Malick's work. But I also fully believe that there is a place for The Fast and The Furious in my heart right alongside those.

First and foremost, I think it's a testament to this movie that the sequels are as good as they are. Yes, the writers and directors change from film to film, but the characters and the world are all set up here. Dominic Torretto and his family are all interesting, rounded characters. They're a group you want to hang out with, a group you want to root for.

As for the racing scenes, it's pretty remarkable how well those are shot. For all the characters and all the various cars, you're never confused about who's driving what or who's winning. They're some of the most visually interesting action/chase sequences I've ever seen.

At their heart, the Fast & Furious movies are movies about family. They're about the lengths this family will go to in order to protect each other.

Okay, and also they're about fast cars and muscle-ridden dudes.

Happy watching!
CT
