CT: Crazy Cat Ladies
Readers, I am a tired cookie. Possibly it's because I was out until the wee hours last night, worked a full day, and have put off writing my blog post until literally the last few minutes of the day. It's also possible that it's because we have had a teeny tiny kitten in our home who demands all of our waking (and quite a bit of our non-waking) attention.
Last weekend, a friend of Little C's reached out and said that she had a kitten who was too small to go to a shelter (most LA shelters will euthanize kittens under a certain weight. Horrified by that? Here's where you can go to offer some help) but needed a place to stay for a little while. And since Little C and I are already house-servants to two cats, we said sure. I've volunteered at an animal shelter for the past few years and I felt like we were capable of getting this little lady up to a healthy weight and socialized enough to be adopted into a "Forever Family".
So here came little Juju (the name we picked for her because calling her "Kitten" sounded a little cold.
Let's just say that Ron and Roxy are taking a little bit hard. This teeny tiny interloper has taken over their whole house and they're less than impressed. There was a brief period of growling and hissing, but we're past that and now they both just seem to be sulking.
In the past few days Juju has done nothing but eat, so we're well on our way to getting her to a healthy weight. She's formed that adorable little kitten pooch that you just really want to kiss, which is great because you can't see all of her ribs anymore. She's still a bit skittish around us but who can blame her? She literally cheated death a few days ago. That said, she's already confident enough to start destroying things in our house.
So excuse me while I go rescue my computer cords from Juju's tiny little claws. They probably don't let you keep fostering kittens if you let them chew through wires and electrocute themselves. Probably.
Happy Weekend!
