Little C: Heading Out To The Punk Rock Show

Hey readers, have to apologize at the start here, but I am writing this post during the interlude between double featuring the new Resident Evil movie and the new xXx movie. We regret nothing.

So last week for CT's birthday we took a little outing to watch our favorite London punk, Frank Turner. Regular readers will be familiar with our deep deep adoration for Frank and his music. But especially with the weird stress and anxiety of the last week, we needed a punk show.

The show started with Will Varley who in the last week I've become a huge fan of. He's like Marcus Mumford was locked in a room and forced to listen to the Clash for a few years. He's funny and talented and made us all laugh and cry sometimes with the same song.

He stopped a song halfway through to explain the punchline to a joke and somehow this made the joke way funnier. I go to a lot of shows in LA and I've never seen a crowd so engaged with an opening act. It's not really suprising considering how many years of playing shows he has under his belt, but it was still really impressive to watch.

I rushed almost as soon as he stopped playing and bought his latest album at the merch table. It has lived happily in my car radio ever since. It's full of really beautiful, poignant songs, but by far my favorite has been "To Build a Wall". In a week where the whole country has been obsessed with its borders this song has been a grounding and comforting force. You can find the video here. Give it a listen.

CT will cover the rest of the show in her post later this week. For now I have another movie filled with explosions and beautiful tattooed people.

Happy listening
Little C
