Movie Crush Monday: Little C and Evita

Happy Monday readers! Or if your day has gone how mine has, congratulations on surviving Monday!

A few weeks ago CT talked about her deep love for A League of Their Own. I decided this week to change gears slightly because there's a chance to write about a musical, and I must take it. So I'm following Madonna to Evita.

Evita is the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical that my entire family grew up singing into our hairbrushes, so naturally we were in love with the film version. Madonna plays Eva Perone, the infamous and beloved first lady of Argentina. The story tracks her rise from the streets of the city, to actress, to icon.

The best part of the film by far is Antonio Banderas who plays Che. He's the narrator/revolutionary who also acts as the voice of the people in Eva's head. I didn't know until this movie that Antonio could sing but he absolutely nails this part. There's this amazing tango scene where Eva and Che are arguing and dancing together. The best moments in musicals are the moments where the emotion and the story match perfectly with the song style.

The other big highlight of this film was the costumes. Madonna set some world record for number of costumes worn in a movie, and while her wardrobe is marvelous, the rest of the attention to detail in the clothing is just perfect and it helps sell both the very dirty and grounded story of a mid 1900s revolution and the fantastical nature of a musical.

Alright readers, I am in desperate need of a good long sleep and the words are starting to shake a little on the computer screen, so I'm calling it. Have a good week and I'll see you again on Wednesday

Happy Watching
Little C
