Little C: Riverdale

Readers, the CW premiered their new show Riverdale last month. We avoided it for a few weeks because we have too many shows to keep up with. But then Christy caught the pilot with our roommate and... it sort of spiraled down from there. Long story short, we both have hardcore girl crushes on Veronica.

I will fully admit that I was skeptical of a show that tried to make a teen murder mystery out of the classic kids comic. But other than character names and descriptions this show bares little resemblance to the source material. Instead it's sort of Twin Peaks meets 90210 and it probably shouldn't work but damn is it entertaining.

For a show that's being billed as a teen drama, the cinematography and production value of the show is pretty stellar. The color saturation is dialed all the way up, the music choices are well thought out, the casting is perfect. A lot of effort and care is being put into making this show adhere to a very specific aesthetic. And there is nothing I appreciate more than a show that's willing to go all out to create a world.

I deeply love the characters on this show. Veronica is sassy as hell, Jughead is delightful, THEY HAVE JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS. I'm sorry. My childhood has been building to this moment. That horrific film may have ruined Jem and the Holograms for the next generation but this show is making sure that at least Josie and the Pussycats are being given a good portrayal, and I am here for that.

The show is only on episode 4, so I can only imagine how far down this rabbit hole we will end up. We'll keep you posted.

Happy watching,
Little C
