Movie Crush Monday: CT & Resident Evil
Well friends, we've all survived another Monday. Mondays can be vicious, relentless- like some sort of zombie hoard bent on ruining all the good feelings you built up over the weekend. If only there was some sort of awesome zombie killing machine that could save our Monday with her badassery and amazing boots...
Boom!
Resident Evil is a good, old fashioned story about a girl who meets a boy and together they fight their way out of a secret facility where a virus is making everyone into mutants and zombies. Except that that girl is Milla Jovovitch and she is way more interested in killing just about everything than she ever was in some sort of rote love story. Alice is one of my favorite characters of all time, because they do such a great job of slowly revealing information about her. I'd never played the video game when I saw the film, and the way you learn information in this movie is stellar.
Plus you have this incredible cast around Alice that builds out the movie. Eric Mabius has these incredible character moments. I wish he was an actor we saw more, because he is one of my favorite parts of Resident Evil. Then there is my always girl crush, Michelle Rodriguez. Her character, Rain, is coolness incarnate. She's no-nonsense, take no prisoners, "let's get out of this alive" in a way that makes me want to live at the gym. And actually, watching her in this is what eventually led me to The Fast and The Furious, so I will be forever in her debt.
Is this a serious movie? No. Is it full of complex writing and dedicated cinematography? No.
Is it freaking awesome and super fun? Heck yes. And will I be seeing the new one opening night?
All. The Yes.
Happy Watching!
