Movie Crush Monday: Little C and Stardust

Happy Monday readers! Not gonna lie, it was a loooooooooong weekend and I am so ready to jump into a new week. Today for my Movie Crush Monday I'm looking for a little fantasy. A little adventure. A little of the guy who plays Daredevil in a role where he actually smiles. So I'm following Claire Danes from Romeo+Juliet to Stardust.

Guys, as most of you know, CT and I are huge fantasy nerds. So it won't shock you to learn that we are huge Neil Gaiman fans. We love the way he takes a normal world and twists it into something fantastical. But it also means that the TV and movie adaptations of his work are... well... not always very good at capturing the reality of the story. There are a lot of screen writers and directors who just don't get the weird magic that Gaiman deals in. But Matthew Vaughn is someone who really does get it (hopefully so does Bryan Fuller, and we can't wait for American Gods) and while Stardust is not a direct adaptation of the novel it captures the spirit of the story.

It helps of course that not only is Matthew Vaughn a brilliant director who love to put unique spins on stories, but he assembled a cast of some of the most talented people. Mark Strong is a sinister and murderous prince, Michelle Phiffer is a vain and murderous witch. Robert De Niro is a not so murderous captain of an airship and... sorry. Got lost in how much I want to play on an airship with Robert De Niro. Also his character, Captain Shakespeare, is the best thing ever portrayed on screen. I won't spoil anything for those who haven't seen the movie but it's hands down my favorite role of his.

More than anything this movie is an adventure. It's got elements of fairy tales (witches and royalty) but it's really about how the main character Tristan grows up and learns what in his life is really important. The character is played beautifully by Charlie Cox who at the time was a relatively unknown actor. You would never know it, as he stands right alongside the other actors and never feels overshadowed. Most of his scenes are with Claire Danes (who has been acting since she was a teenager) but they always feel like they are equally in control of the scenes.

Even if she is MUCH more shiny

Happy Watching,
Little C
