3rd Day of (TV) Christmas: Psych
On the third day of Christmas, these bloggers gave to thee-
A Psych-o holiday treeeeeeeeeat!
No? Was the song too much? Anyway, this is one of my favorite shows, and they did several holiday themed episodes. My favorite of which is the season two episode Gus's Dad May Have Killed and Old Guy. Plus yesterday's episode was a Stone Cold Bummer(tm) and that's not what we need right now.
Gus reveals that his parents think Shawn is a bad influence. And for someone who coasts through his life on charm, having his best friends parents not like him is intolerable. So Shawn goes on a charm offensive at a Christmas dinner that is going delightfully bad before Gus's father is accused of murder and Shawn comes to the rescue. The eye roll that Henry gives him as Shawn "divines that the suicide is actually murder is perfect.
In the other best scene goes to Lasiter attempting to enjoy a holiday party with Juliet's family. Timothy Omundson is a comic genius who gleefully interrupts a kid craft corner and tells the children that in Holland, Santa uses slaves to deliver the presents. The relationship between Carlton and Juliet is heartwarming and hilarious. He comes back later to let the kids play with a Wii that he confiscated from a suspect, but then immediately gets over competitive until the kids quit.
Phylicia Rishad, who makes a guest appearence as Gus's mom, is a damn treat. She fusses over her son constantly, she bursts in to tears when she thinks she's going to go to prison. She tells Gus that she's called his grandmother who has promised to look out for her 29 year old grandson. She nails how funny overbearing mom's everywhere are.
The climax of the episode is Shawn and Gus chasing down a suspect to a jazzy cover of Jingle Bells. God I love this wacky show.
Anywhoo, Gus's dad didn't kill the old dude. The HOA lady killed the old dude. Gus's parents are cleared, and they finally find Shawn charming. It's a Christmas Miracle!
